We offered the world premiere of this work, and the resulting recording and video are now available to you.Ĭontemplating Mysteries of Life and DeathĪnother large-scale work is the composition Mechayeh Hametim (The Resurrection fo the Dead) by Noam Sheriff. The eminent composer Simon Sargon noted that there had not been a larger-scale Jewish musical work dealing with remembrance, and so, to honor the memory of his friend Cantor Ephraim Biran, he composed “Azkara - A Jewish Requiem”. Whenever you remember, whomever you remember, we hope this music brings you comfort in grief, and joy at what has been. This album takes you on a journey through loss and grief, with the traditional Jewish responses of saying Kaddish, the Memorial Prayer, and large-scale musical works exploring the nature of death and mourning, loss and triumph. We harness the powers of music to soothe, to feel grief intensely, and to recall past times and people with lasting affection. Whether thinking of the someone who has departed naturally after a long and full life, or those who perished in a shared tragedy like the Shoah, we turn to music at these times. ![]() In the Jewish consciousness, we are aware of personal losses on a local scale, and of a collective obligation to remember, to mourn together.
